Short biography:

Raúl Marín received the degree of Computer Engineer (1991-1996) and Doctor of Computer Engineering (1997-2002) from the Jaume I University of Castellón. In 1997 he joined the Lucent Technologies Network Systems R & D Center (Bell Labs Innovations-Madrid), working as a researcher, architect and developer of distributed systems. In 1999 he worked as director of the computer department of the Valencian Institute of Edification, while he was part of the Jaume I University as a teacher and part-time researcher. Since 2001 Raúl Marín holds a full-time position at this same University, within the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and is currently a Permanent Professor at the University. His scientific interest focuses on the application of network and distributed systems for the design of remotely controlled robots, including cooperative teams, and their practical application in dangerous environments (i.e. radioactive, fire, underwater). Also, he is interested in the design of distributed and telerobotic systems for educational purposes.

Raúl Marín has accomplished some research stays: (1) Predoctoral stay at the Technological Science Park of the University of Nottingham-UK (1996), (2) Postdoctoral research at the CNRS-LASMEA Laboratory (Blaise Pascal University, France), studying supervised remote control of manipulative robots with vision and force feedback (2002); (3) CSIC-UPM-CAR Center working in the research group "Robots and Intelligent Machines", studying the necessary network protocols to perform Master-Slave experiments on a manipulator robot equipped with a force and vision sensor with FPGAs (2007) ; (4) Special Visiting Professor at the Federal University of Brazil (2016) for the design of underwater teleoperated robots; (5) Visiting Scientific Professor in the MRO section (Mechatronics, Robotics and Operations) of CERN, as advisor of PhD/Master students (2015, 2018, 2019) on remote control and cooperative robotics.

He has been member of scientific committees of international conferences (IEA-AIE, IEEE IROS, IEEE ICRA, iCINCO, TAROS, etc.), organized some conferences and international doctoral schools (EURON, AUTOMAR, etc.), and served as editor in some international journals (e.g. Future Internet, Applied Intelligence, System Man & Cybernetics, etc.).

At the project level, he has participated in 23 international and national research projects, among which we can name: (1) "EU FP6 GUARDIANS" (Group of Unmanned Assistant Robots Deployed In Agregative Navigation supported by Scent detection), working in the field of protocols and network technologies for teams of firefighter assistant robots, and coordinating the UJI team;  (2) "EU FP7 TRIDENT" (Marine Robots and Dexterous Manipulation for Enabling Autonomous Underwater Multipurpose Intervention Missions), working as a researcher and counselor of doctoral theses; (3) "CERNTAURO" (Robotic Framework at CERN for Inspection and Telemanipulation), focusing on advanced computer science and telecommunication techniques for remote control. Likewise, he has coordinated four national research projects.

Raúl Marín has advised six doctoral theses, and is currently managing two, all of them in the improvement of computer systems that allow the remote control of devices in robotic rescue interventions. Likewise, he is the author of more than 130 scientific publications in these fields.
