CIRTESU

Centro de Investigación en Robótica y TEcnologías SUbacuáticas

Research Center in Robotics and Submarine Technologies

Project:

The creation of robots able to work underwater is one of the most difficult tasks open to scientists. One of the first problems is the need for a wide range of resources, from the material (big pools, complex communication devices…) to the personal (specialist in multiple fields of modern technology). The aim of this consortium is the creation of a Research Center which can solve complex and difficult problems related to underwater technologies. Thus, several research groups, laboratories and private companies have put together their resources to approach them.

Material:

GIRONA 500 AUV

The Girona 500 is a reconfigurable autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) designed for a maximum operating depth of up to 500 m. The vehicle is composed of an aluminium frame which supports three torpedo-shaped hulls of 0.3 m in diameter and 1.5 m in length as well as other elements like the thrusters. A complete description can be found in the webpage of the builders, Iqua Robotics.
